It was then when I discovered the perfect platform for the audiobook: biking. The first audiobook I'd ever tried out was Brief Interviews with Hideous Men only because after reading it, I loved it so much I watched the movie (ok) and then hauled ass over to iTunes once I learned that the audiobook includes David Foster Wallace's narration of a couple chapters himself. I listened to that over a couple days of cooking and also just laying in bed. Good platforms also, but biking trumps 'em both. My second venture with audiobooks was this past summer in New York. If the walk somewhere would take me 40 minutes or less, I took it. Sometimes I'd strut it out to music, but then I decided to try and be a little more productive and multi-task on my reading list starting with Zadie Smith's NW. Audiobooking like that didn't really work out so well because I was so distracted by the people watching, building gawking, and life musing that otherwise populated my walks. Consumed by the repetition of pedaling, peacefully in motion, some breeze, slowing passing through the bucolic scenes defining is North Central Florida, biking was the perfect platform for Zadie's commentary on Kafka, Zora Neale Hurston, and David Foster Wallace. Those were the essays I listened to before switching gears to Robyn. Biking is also the perfect platform for Robyn because I could wail to the world about why you should call your girlfriend, why it's time you've had the talk, the reasons you should give her, and why it's not her fault.
